The second question's answer is actually incorrect. If you overtake the person in last place, and you assume that the story is playing fair, then the only way that's possible is if you were in first place and are so far ahead that you lapped the last place person.
You are right Scott. This is fun puzzle. Nice thinking that if you overtake last person, you are coming first.
There cant be many last ones! When you are the last one, you cant overtake you.. Then to overtake you, some one else from out side the race must enter.
It is really funny brain game.. better than negative games like star war etc.
